Social Theme Parks

Part of the reason I’ve stopped blogging here is that the topic was too broad. With that said, I’ve started a new blog with a much more narrow focus. If you like social media and/or theme parks, please follow SocialThemeParks.com – I’ll let you guess what it’s about ;)

Closing up shop

It’s been a while since I last posted, so I wanted to explain what’s going on. As many of you probably know, I recently moved to London to begin my Master of Digital Marketing. I’m also working while attending school (gotta keep hustling!) I’m also still a regular contributor for The Disney Blog, and I’m making an effort to write for other publications. As a result of all of this, my personal blog fell in priority on my to do list. I’m going to leave it up so that I may return to it at any time, but for now I think this will probably be the last update I do for a while.

I survived a week without Facebook

If you didn’t read my last post, I decided to give up Facebook for an entire week. I did this because I realized that I’ve spent countless hours on the platform, rarely going more than 24 hours without logging in for the past several years of my life. Even though I’ve claimed that I was going to quit Facebook on numerous occasions, I never went through with it. This experiment was a 7-day trial to see what my life would be like without Facebook. And you know what? It wasn’t that bad. Read more of this post

Why I’m not logging on to Facebook this week

I am the little boy who cried wolf. Many times I’ve caught myself exclaiming “I swear, I’m going to quit Facebook this time.” Whenever they change their privacy settings, or re-vamp their site layout I decide that this was the nail in the coffin. What did it this time? Nothing really. I actually like the new Facebook Timeline. (If you don’t have it yet, you can get it here.) This time, it is not a change in Facebook that is making me want to do this. Read more of this post

Four types of interns you’ll come across

If you’ve ever worked at a company with a large class of interns, you know that you get a mixed bag of students vying to be the next CEO (or even to get a job offer.) After the first few weeks of coffee runs and photocopies, true colors start to emerge. How many of these interns have you met? Read more of this post

Spice up your classroom presentation with social media

Now that the fall semester is underway, there’s a good chance you’ll have to make a presentation in one or more of your classes. While most students will opt for PowerPoint, consider stepping outside the box and using other tools to enhance your presentation. Some people use Prezi, a very flashy alternative to the standard PowerPoint, but honestly I think that presentations done on Prezi come across as messy and difficult to follow. Instead, consider using one or more social media networks to add value to what you are presenting. Here are a few ways you can integrate social media into your presentaton. Read more of this post

Fall studying playlist

As I was working on something this morning, I realized that the type of music I’m listening to really has the ability to change the quality of work I produce. When I’m reading, I like to listen to really calming, soothing music (something classical, or perhaps my favorite Disney ballad.) If I’m writing and generating something creative, I like to listen to music that PUMPS ME UP like Black Eyed Peas or Ke$ha. (“We R Who We R” just came on my shuffle as I’m writing this.) Anyway, I turned this question to my Facebook friends and Twitter followers, and I’ve compiled a studying playlist that spans many genres: Read more of this post

Top six tips for being more retweetable

One of the best ways to grow your follower count is by being retweeted. But for a new Twitter user, that first RT can be a tough challenge. Once you get retweeted, you’ll become hungry for more. When I get asked for advice on this topic, I usually say “just tweet more.” But you have to be careful here. Simply tweeting about what song you are listening to or what sandwich you are eating is an easy way to get unfollowed, the exact opposite of what you are setting out to do. Here are my tips for being a more retweetable tweeter: Read more of this post

Help me win a contest!

Friends, as you know I absolutely love contests. Remember how I taught you how to enter and win Twitter contests? Well I’m entered in a contest right now to be “Likeable Media’s Most Likeable Fan.” If you don’t know Likeable Media, I’ve written about them before. Anyway, there’s a cash prize associated with this contest, so I’d really appreciate if you took five seconds (that’s really all it takes) to vote for me in their contest

Thanks! (And if you are ever in a contest and need votes, send the link my way and I will happily reciprocate.)

The crazy things Google suggests

As I was about to ask the almighty Google a question, I noticed some strange suggested searches. Curiously, I pressed on. See below the jump for more gems. Read more of this post
