Wegmans on Twitter

I miss Wegmans more than anything else about living in the northeast. For anyone who hasn’t been lucky enough to visit a Wegmans store, let me introduce you. Wegmans is a family owned chain of 75 grocery stores spread out in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and nearby states. They are consistently ranked as one of Fortune‘s best companies to work for. Not only is it a great grocery store, but their Twitter presence is also stellar. By tweeting relevant recipes, responding to customer queries, and having a little bit of fun, Wegmans has a strong group of 20K+ followers. My favorite thing about following @Wegmans is their “daily meal ideas.” Every day, the company tweets a recipe or two that is appropriate for the season. What I like is that there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re gluten free (like me,) vegan, or just a picky eater, chances are that one of the daily meal ideas will satisfy your appetite.
Another great thing about Wegmans is that they actually listen to what their customers are saying. Even if you just tweet “shopping at Wegmans,” chances are they will respond. Even better, they respond to complaints and suggestions. Several times I’ve seen someone tweet something like “I wish @Wegmans stocked product XYZ in their stores” and the company will follow up. This alligns with the fact that that Wegmans is known for taking suggestions seriously and even adjusting their product offering to suit the needs of individual customers. Of course, they take the good with the bad and apologize whenever a customer had a negative shopping experience.
Finally, their community manager(s) is not afraid of having a little fun with their followers. Whether that be through a tweet where customers can “fill-in-the-blank” or by offering a “King of the grill blog contest,” Wegmans always keeps their tweeps entertained.
